Make it stronger:
OK, that's over and done with. Now, don't just ask me questions because you need to. Make the questions worth thinking over. Make it worth mulling over, like bitter chocolate. Let them leave a lingering loving aftertaste in my mouth, not sour, but sweet. Quality questions please.

Make it lovable:
And, yes, please make me love the quiz, not because its on TV, but because its worth attending. Make it a piece of art, not a standardised, template driven, machine made, piece of pressed metal made by industrial robots. Something unique, something cool, not the same ol' connections, not again!

www.fundamental.in You woulda loved the quiz. If you're the kind who likes qs on the annual accrual value of Indian heritage sites like the Taj Mahal (Choices: Rs 1, 1000, 1 million or 10 million!). Or other such multiple choice qs. involving crops.
We didn't. However, you've got to hand it to the man. He puts on a good show and entertains one and all. Maybe his theme music should change to this Queen number.

You woulda liked the finals, if you wanted to learn to communicate on stage, or speak well. However, we were disappointed. IMHO only.

Finals saw 6 teams on stage (good to see some students on stage along with the good ol' Professor Gowda). Team Sun(Mitesh)+Accenture(Rohan)+Kotak(Prasad) won, followed by Prof Gowda's team, I think. Followed by Guna(OnMObile), Vish(IBM), Alagar (Fullerton). Others were CTS (super team to watch out for....Shubham, Matti, Yaggs), TCS(JK)/Yahoo(Ajay Kasargod) /KPMG(Ramkey), and one more team who I do not recollect(one of them was an IIMB student).

The only qs from the prelims I remember as being nice was the one about 5.2 billion small green houses having being built for what (8 letter answer). And the one about Rajagopalachari's term that punned on "British Raj".

If you are the kind of quizzer who likes nice & long workoutable quizzes; and had reasonable mental acuity, you should have been at the IIMB Audi yesterday. With a 33 q prelim (33rd being an acrostic made of 32 letters from the 1st 32 answers), and a nice 105 minute finals, Mitesh "set us up the bomb". It all fit in very well with the think different theme (3 idiots anyone?) After all, the venue was the same where "balatkar" happened). It's a different matter that we got balatkar'd in the prelims!

Finals saw 6 teams play an "all on buzzer with built in challenge mode". Finalists: Udupa+Tups (won the quiz), Rohan + Prasad (2nd), JK + Alagar. Others in no order were Naveen + Amit, Ajay rao + Shubham, Ramkey + Ajay Kasaragod

CEAT Open quiz reviewed

35 lovely qs in the elims. A few arcane ones and mostly superb questions in the finals. Pleasant weather in Chennai. What a combo.
The CEAT open quiz started mostly on time, with 130+ teams giving it a shot. 35 elims qs followed. Cut off was 22 or thereabouts I believe.

An 8 round finals followed. The first round was more or less on slowburn until the 4/5th q, and then slowly the teams on stage warmed up to the proceedings. Rajiv was unassuming & honest and made it a very pleasant experience for the teams on stage as well as the onlookers, unlike some big name quiz masters (and I'm not talking about Naveen).

Though some qs were a bit tough and vague, most of the questions were very workoutable for a decently well read person, and were "on the edge of knowing the answer" type, which is really great for a quiz (atleast these are the types I like).
Some were real cool, like the Andaman Express and Lakshwadeep Express train funda. Some were downright super, like the Amar Chitra Katha comics question (1st ten ACK comics were actually not mytho types, and Krsihna was #11).
Some were fun to know, like the Ezekiel poem on his fav Irani cafe. Google it, its a beauty. And no nuisance please. ;o)
Some unvieled interesting trivia, like the fact that the word Arcade originates from Arches.
Some were a little otaku'ish, yet I loved coz I got it. The Hugo award, the Oldsmobile tail fin(s)!
Some were technically hard...X, Q and Z being the only single letter domains in existence
Some were old world..A Sousa piece being used as Monty Pythons famous music intro piece cause it was cheap to buy

All in all, a few hours well spent. And of course, met a couple of good people, Venkat and Pratyush. Bottoms up, you two.
